How to Lock Out Law Enforcement

Law enforcement officers can confiscate your phone if you are pulled over, passing through airport security etc. Recent court rulings have shown that officers CAN legally compel you to unlock your phone with a fingerprint, but they CAN NOT require you to give them the pin to unlock it. If you expect to interact with an officer, turn off the phone completely. A fingerprint / face scan will not unlock an iPhone after it has been restarted, only a pin can unlock it.

The court ruling claimed that providing a finger print or facial scan is not unlike giving a DNA sample (which is legally enforceable), however you always have the right to remain silent (and not say your pin).

Random Fact: While there are some obvious advantages to this feature, it is actual a technological limitation and not an intentional feature.
